Laura Baker

Laura Baker is Associate Client Portfolio Manager, Equities at PenderFund Capital Management. She writes in Pender Pulse Substack.

Laura joined Pender in October 2025. Before joining, Laura spent several years in institutional equity sales and equity research at major Canadian financial institutions. In these roles, she worked closely with a broad range of institutional investors, providing market insights, investment ideas, and detailed company analysis. She covered multiple industries during her tenure, gaining deep exposure to both fundamental company drivers and broader market dynamics. This background gives her a strong analytical foundation and a clear understanding of the information needs and decision-making processes of professional investors.

Laura holds a BCom from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University. She has completed the CSC and CPH, and brings extensive experience in Canadian public equities and institutional client coverage. She is also regularly involved in industry mentorship and networking initiatives focused on fostering a more inclusive finance community.

Outside of work, Laura is an avid athlete and lifelong learner. She plays ice hockey and competes in triathlons. Her love of travel has taken her to a variety of destinations, where she seeks out new cultures, landscapes, and experiences. Laura also has a strong creative side. She spends her spare time exploring different forms of storytelling and is an enthusiastic reader with diverse literary interests.
