The privacy and security of your personal information is important to us. Having
reviewed Canada's Bill C-6, the Personal Information Protection & Electronic
Documents Act, we believe we have implemented a Privacy Policy more stringent
than that required by law.
Please read the following policy explaining the types
of information we collect and what we do with it.
To obtain maximum value from
the services we offer, we require users to register on our site. Registration
is free and lets you take advantage of our powerful tools, and our popular discussion
forum -- all of which require security and accountability. When you register
on our site, you choose a unique User Name and Password, which we then use to
secure your personal information and maintain accountability.
To become a registered
user on our site, we require you to provide us with the following personal information:
a unique User Name; a password; a valid email address, which we will authenticate;
the format of your email application [html/plain text]; your residential postal
code; your year of birth; whether or not you are a financial professional, and
if so, the category of your financial profession.
To complete your Personal Profile with our site, we invite you to also provide
us with the following optional information: gender; primary Internet access
speed; and other demographic information. This information is voluntary.
From time
to time as part of contests or site promotions, we may ask you for additional
items of personal information. You will always be free to decide whether or
not to participate in these special events.
In order to register
with our site, we also require you to confirm that you have read our Privacy
Policy and End User Agreement. By selecting the appropriate boxes as indicated
on the registration form, you confirm that you understand and agree to the terms
and conditions outlined in our Privacy Policy and End User Agreement, and that
you consent to the collection and use of personal information as outlined in
our Privacy Policy. Please be advised that you may withdraw your consent at
any time.
Our site excels in providing accurate,
personalized, information services about mutual funds and market activities
in which our users are interested. To accomplish this, we've developed some
of the best tracking and reporting tools to be found anywhere on the Internet.
We use your personal information to customize, protect and deliver by email
the information services that you request from us. We use your postal code and
your year of birth to help us determine the regional balance of our membership
and to provide assistance should you forget your password.
We also use, in aggregate,
users' birth years and postal codes, along with optional membership information
such as gender, financial profession and the name of investment firms to create
demographic profiles. These profiles describe users as a group, not as individuals,
and the profiles allow us to attract sponsorship and advertising, to further
customize services that we would like to offer you in the future and form part
of our information products that we sell to our clients.
To complete your profile
we ask for your name. This information is also optional, and allows us to personalize
our communications with you. We also use the optional membership information
on an individual-by-individual basis in order to provide you with customized
content and services that are of particular interest to you and to present advertisements
that are relevant to you.
There's increasing pressure to eliminate spam from
the Internet. Our site doesn't spam but we produce a large amount of email.
We use email addresses to validate registration since it lets us demonstrate
a relationship between the email we send and the users we send it to. When you
register, we send a confirmation email, which we make 2 different attempts to
deliver, trying twice on each attempt. If receipt is not confirmed at the end
of those attempts, we assume the address is invalid and delete your records
from active membership. We also use your email address to send you reports and
other information that you specifically request and to provide you with updates,
new product and site enhancement information not specifically requested. The
Fund Library operates one of the liveliest discussion forums in Canada.
An authentic email address is essential to maintain quality and integrity of
content in this open forum.
Cookies are small, unique files that are deposited on users' PCs by Internet sites during
visits. The files allow sites to recognize users as they arrive and to enrich
service delivery.
We use cookies to allow
us to greet you by your user name and to display customized Home Pages with
content you've selected. In order to enjoy the full benefits of the user experience,
we recommend that you always accept the cookies from our site.
Cookies are also used when serving the banner
advertising that you see on our site. This allows us
to provide our advertisers with accurate information on how many users see their
ads, when they see them, and from what regions of the country they see them.
No personal information about our users is disclosed to our advertisers.
The cookies track ad performance through generic information gathered
from your URL, domain name, domain type, Internet Service Provider and from
your reaction to the ads they show you.
We do not sell, share or in any way re-distribute information that is personally identifiable
about you -- we are not in the mailing list business. However, accuracy requires
us to mention that the membership component of our site is a business asset.
Our commitment to protect and preserve the privacy of your personal information
does not exclude our right to sell or merge or modify for profit our site or
any portion of our business. We also reserve the right to comply with governmental,
court and law enforcement requests or requirements relating to your use of our
site or information provided to or gathered by us with respect to such use.
As registered user, you can access your profile pages and change the information
whenever you are logged in to the site. Look for the 'Membership Services' menu item
and box on the home page sidebar.
Our site operates in secure surroundings. We make backup or protection tapes of
our site data which we store securely. All contractors and third
parties that we deal with are expressly vetted for security and reliability.
